Stonehenge

My wife said that when she was a little girl, she visited Stonehenge and had a great time clambering over the megaliths. In order to discourage such wanton vandalism, English Heritage have erected a perimeter fence and employ a team of security guards to keep the pubic off the site, especially if they haven't paid the exorbitant entrance fee.

  1. Oh, there are so many pieces of 'national heritage', administered by English Heritage or the National Trust, with ridiculous and prohibitive entrance fees...

Worst of all is when it's a location of natural beauty - perhaps High Force comes to mind - how can you fence off a waterfall and turn it into a paying attraction?
